OMOP Episode Table Metrics

Summary

The Episode table in OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) captures detailed information about clinical episodes representing treatment plans for patients in the oncology cohort. This table enables analysis of care trajectories and treatment patterns by providing granular episode-level data including episode start and end dates, episode types, and associated clinical events.

As of May 2026, this table includes 62,618 unique patients with 220,010 episodes IDs. Episodes span from 2002-10-01 to 2026-04-19.

Please note that episode records are more prevalent in recent years, which may reflect improvements in data capture and recording practices over time.

Treatment Plan Type Distribution

Treatment Plan Type & Treatment Protocol

The following sunburst chart is used to visualize the hierarchical relationship between treatment plan types and treatment protocols, with segment sizes representing the number of unique patients. The table below provides a detailed breakdown of patient counts and episode totals for each Treatment Plan Type and treatment protocol combination.

Tip

This visualization is limited to the top 10 treatment protocols per plan type with more than 500 unique patients due to the high number of categories. Patients may appear under multiple protocols, so protocol-level counts are not mutually exclusive. Percentages shown on hover (% of shown) are relative to the total across displayed categories only, not the full dataset.

The following table provides a detailed breakdown of patient counts and episode totals for each Treatment Plan Type and treatment protocol combination, filtered to include only those with more than 500 unique patients to focus on the most prevalent treatment patterns.

Thoracic Tumor Board Cohort

Of 3,013 thoracic tumor board patients, 1,969 (65.4%) have episode records.

Thoracic TB: Treatment Plan Type & Treatment Protocol

Tip

Treatment plans shown here are not exclusively oncology-related and may include other clinical specialties. Additionally, each patient may have multiple treatment plans and protocols, so patient counts across categories are not mutually exclusive.
